I see that this was already commemorated in another thread. How can
one keep track, with all these tens of thousands of messages?? :)

Thanks, David, and I am honored to be in the club with you. :)

The funny thing is that I've never used Ruby, and that was my very first
post to this group. And... The post was about numbers!

I'd been meaning to check out Ruby for a while, since I'm a major fan of
dynamic, expressive languages. I use C++ in my work (yuck) but I really like
JavaScript, Python, AWK, Perl, and used to be quite fond of Forth. (I still
like Forth in some ways although it's been years since I used it. It's
awfully primitive by modern standards, but I always liked the way it lets
you make your own language as you go.)

I happened to be up late last night with a bad cold. Couldn't sleep,
couldn't write any code, so took a look at comp.lang.ruby. (I take it that
ruby-talk and comp.lang.ruby are mirrored to each other the same way as the
Python list and newsgroup.) I found the "In search of a compelling reason to
use Ruby" thread that Ryan Paul started to be quite interesting, and started
reading the pickaxe book.

Ruby looks like my kind of language! Now that I've been honored with the
100,000th post, I will have to start using it for some projects. :)

Some lines of Ruby should do, I think.

Happy rubying
