Adding webmethods caused existing clients to act strange

I have had some existing clients acting strange lately when I added 4 new webmethods to an existing webservice. The existing signatures did not change, just new methods were added. When I "refreshed" the webservice reference from Studio and rebuilt the client, everything worked fine. Is there a requirement out there somewhere that specifies that when new webservice methods are added, the clients must also be rebuilt or refreshed? In my case, all of my clients are windows services located around the state and I don't like the fact that if I add a method, I have to reinstall all of my clients.
