Advice on Potential C++ applications

J

I want to develop a C++ portfolio containing applications that will hopefully
impress potential employers for Entry Level C++ jobs. I'm hoping some of you
more experienced types might provide details of potential projects.

Thanks

JB

Motion detection, serial port communications, math problem solver, web
interface, multidimensional maze programs, translator programs for people
studying different languages.

I would be impressed

Employers will be more impressed if you speak enthusiastically about
your project, which is more likely if the project is something that's
self-conceived and self-driven. So write what you want. That is, write
what YOU want, not what you think they'll want.

not to mention algorithm animators, 3D graphics, and a $2 crack whore bitch
should all impress.

I wouldn't really be that interested in what application you have
written before. Unless it was an area that I was familiar with I
wouldn't necessarily know whether it was easy, middling, or hard.

What I would ask is what did *you* find difficult about it, how did
*you* overcome the difficulty, and how would *you* approach the task
differently if you had to do it again.

I'd then ask how you went about testing it - but wouldn't hold your
answer against you.

Mostly I'd be looking to ascertain your problem solving strategies. How
well you'd adapt to our development processes, and how you'd work in a
team. If there were doubts about the last two points your past
experience, and ability would count for nothing.

A little humor now and then is ok but enough is enough! I think this kind of
language discredits this the whole group. There are women and impressionable
teens reading these messages as well I'm sure!

Hmm you should still quote what you are replying to. Even if you don't want
to reconvey his message, a simple snipping of the vulgarities would work

The profanity was included in my original posting. I've noticed some serious
manipulations going on, don't know who's responsible for that!

You see, it's just happened again. I was responding to the group about some
profanity that was recently posted here and although I highlighted the text
before replying, the original message does not appear in my posting. Could it
be a problem with the system?

I'm inclined to agree with you. after all, as far as I know, it was only
happening to me.

There ya go.

Quoting with attribution lines automatically should be an AOL option, but
having it turned off by default doesn't actually surprise me. (But I will
spare you the AOL sucks routine)
