Any lytebox users?

It is really nice and works a treat BUT if I view in IE8 and the page text
colour is white then the title text is invisible.
Everything works fine in other browsers.
Is there a tweak for IE?

Example page http://www.jimscot.myby.co.uk/Latest/Latest.html

The text is white so why should it be visible in any browser if the
background were to be white? Or are you saying the background *is* white
on your IE? Not the case on my IE6 or 7.

Hi again
You and I are separated by a common language it seems.
When I use eg FF and click on a thumbnail, the enlarged picture has a white
frame with black (and grey) text and close button.
When I do the same with IE8 all the text and the close gif disappear and
all I am left with is/are the prevand next prompts (in grey and black
respectively).

Ah... sorry, Jim. I had popups blocked on my Mac browsers and also my
WinIE 6 and 7 just also showed the simple link to a bigger jpg rather
than the fancier pop up (not sure what goes on there), I better leave
this one till I study this lytebox thing more closely.

Anyway, one good thing is where the popup is blocked the degradation is
good. You still get to see the enlargement.

Using Firefox, I see the popup window and all the text. However, unlike
lots of other slideshow-type presentations, the "prev" and "next" are
never in the same spot in the viewport, making mouse-work more
difficult.

"prev" and "next" are also so tiny that anyone with motor skill problems
won't like it...

I have not installed IE8 yet. I am using a Vista 64-bit OS. Using
either a 32-bit or a 64-bit IE7, your example responds in the same
manner as it does on Firefox and Opera. Since you have this problem,
you likely need to test on 64-bit OS with both a 64-bit and 32-bit
versions of IE8. My fairly new Dell 64-bit Vista Studio XPS came wirh
both 32 and 64-bit versions of IE 7 installed, and they may be
selected at All Programs. For instance, flash will not work on a
browser in the 64-bit mode but will work on 32-bit browsers. The next
version of flash will be modifided to work on 64-bit browsers.

I have changed one of the options so that the PREV and NEXT appear towards
the top corners of the image.
The trouble with that is that "how do you know?" unless you find them by
accident?
They, of course ,don't appear at all in IE8 and neither do the
alternatives, you commented on.

Problem seems to be solved.
I have changed from Lytebox to Slimbox which does not have that problem

(PS To Dorayme - at least I got rid of most of my table layout with the
buttons in the corners - hope it all look better in your maxiscreen ))

It looks fine to me Jim, really. This pic pop-up is also nice. I always
am tempted by this sort of thing (there are CSS ways to show
enlargements though not with navigation so neat). I used to use
javascript windows that held the enlargements with the idea that people
did not have to *lose* their place from where they were on the main page
(ones with thumbnails or links) or use back buttons etc.

But I have shied away from all these things in recent years, figuring
that simple was better, easier to maintain, dependable for *everyone*,
not causing trouble or surprise to minorities etc... I have been
figuring that if you do not have such effects, it forces you to get a
really solid navigation system going and have things so that people can
usually know where they are and how to get to where they want.

Still, I will probably flirt with hover effects now and again and may
even come back to your kind of thing.

I have now experimented with Lightbox, Lytebox and currently Slimbox.
Lightbox is a bit clunky to set up and the darkening of the background does
not cover the full width of the screen (although there is a way to fix this
I cannot work it out)
Lytebox has more bells and whistles, especially the ability to fit the
screen if the picture is too large BUT it has the problem of disappearing
text I mentioned above.
Slimbox works best for me, but it has a lot of stuff I don't need and the
darkening of the background seems to be 'all or nothing'.
Are there any more/different/better?

....

There was a time when I would do this relatively simple sort of thing
for people to see enlargements.

<http://dorayme.netweaver.com.au/jsPopUpViewer/main.html>

But, though I never received any complaints, I decided against it for
various reasons: they would sometimes cause uncertainties for folks
blocking popups and I would have to take measures for this, sometimes
some browsers would open the enlargement viewer in a tab (and the user
might not notice! It depends on browser config.

I mention this Jim, because you can easily configure the pop window o
look however you want, it is just a matter of HTML and CSS. Also because
it can be moved out of the way of the main article by the user and not
blocking content.

However, I better add, instead, where there was a useful purpose for a
dedicated viewer of enlargements, I rather went a more conventional
route with no js, like with:

<http://dorayme.netweaver.com.au/simpleViewer/main.html>

This has the advantage being naturally big enough to include the full
site navigation on the viewer page(s).

I have now moved on to 'lightview' which is what I have been looking for ie
image which does not exceed the current frame and a navigation bar (the
slideshow is a bonus).

Ha - I have moved on to lightview as it gives me an image and a navigation
bar.

Yes, I know. And it is no doubt fine for your context. I was raising a
sort of basic point about what might be ways to go when you want to
provide users with enlargement facilities that give information at a
glance of all that are available. In your case, the enlargements block
out this information (the page behind goes black)

In contexts I am often used to, there might be a lot of material being
looked at on a page. There might be a few thumbnails on that page. The
thumbnails might be of a type of thing that is mentioned in other pages
on the website with other thumbnails added on those pages. Bringing all
the enlargements together in a facility can be useful.

Where there are very few thumbnails, as on your page above, another way
to go would be to shift the thumbnails to the left and leave the area to
the right for the enlargements, the thumbs acting as a local menu - an
adaptation of one click into my second URL above:

<http://dorayme.netweaver.com.au/simpleViewer/viewer/blue.html>

but imagine simply putting the thumbs there instead of the text links
that go Aqua, Blue, etc.

In some contexts it is nice to be able to *see* a wider context at all
times. But I agree, not in all. So good luck.

I just found another example.

I will wonder that this page shall not show grey text in IE8.

Yesterday I had some wine so today I have to configure it on my SuSe
and after I will try to install IE8.
I wanted to do that already many days ago - I will also experiment
with my scanner and other things. So that can be very exiting.

Anyway - on that page I saw the tags:

<TD><a href='images/photos/danni/nina_mercedez_01.jpg' rel='lightbox'
and so on.

But you use
<td>
<a href="../Ships/Ship_images/Athena.jpg" class='lightview' rel='set
[mygallery]'

I don't know if here the problem might to be found
or if you changed the code already from lytebox to lightview etc.

Agreed.
I have used it here
http://www.jimscot.myby.co.uk/Jims_pictures/Jimspics_000_thumbnails.html
as each picture stands alone,
but NOT here
http://www.jimscot.myby.co.uk/Local/LH_000_thumbnails.html
where the text is as important as the pictures.
(I spent ages getting the lightview application to open pages instead of
pictures, before I realised that I was wasting time and screen space. Doh!)

hm... I was able to install wine.
And aswell IE8.

I don't know if it is a bug with wine or the difficulties to simulate
windows
but when I enlarge one picture everything is fine - the text is there
-
except on the top left corner of the pictures white border the edge is
missing.

Maybe it is the gecko thingy I had to download first.
