ASP.NET vs ASP

If this forum is not for ASP.NET questions, please excuse and direct me to
the correct forum.

Questions for programmers that have migrated from ASP to ASP.NET....

Are you happy you've made the commitment to migrate? Did you happen to
migrate for a specific reason? Did you migrate just because it's the newest
toy in town? Was it a steep learning curve? Has anyone tried it and gone
back to ASP?

I feel that I should learn something other than ASP just to keep the mind
working. I've been told that PHP and MySQL is pretty cool to work with. But
I'm figuring that if I decide to learn something, maybe it should be
ASP.NET. Can I get a few opinons?

This is not the forum for ASP.NET questions. However, I think you're ok
since your question is actually directed to ASP (classic) programmers. I
use both ASP classic and ASP.NET (as well as Cold Fusion, PHP and JSP).
There's no need to swear an oath of allegiance to any one particular
scripting platform. In fact, the experiences and lessons learned in one
platform often provides a deeper insight into the strengths and
weaknesses of other platforms. The same holds true for databases. So in
answer to your original question ASP.NET/SQLServer versus PHP/mySQL, why
not both?

I agree strongly with Chris. Learning many different platforms/languages
makes it a lot easier to understand why some things work.

As a VBScripter in asp, I found it very difficult to switch to ASP.Net.
Therefore, I decided to learn ASP.Net with C#. Now that I understand how
that works, I look at VB.Net code and have no trouble seeing what's going
on. Essentially, I had trouble converting what I know in VBScript to
VB.Net.
