ASP.net web pagegs

I have just created a very simple web page/site in VS 2005. I have saved it,
built it but when I try to display in a browser it takes about 20 seconds and
then comes up with "the page cannot be displayed" error. Being new to C# and
the .Net environment I"m not sure what to go look for. I was using VS 2003
without any issues.

Thanks for your help

Hi

Do you have the latest version of the framework installed?

Also did you just select view in browser or did you build the project / run
in debug mode?

What is the exact error you are seeing? "Page cannot be displayed" is a
generic error that doesn't help in troubleshooting.

Hi,

I'm not sure. I just downloaded vs 2005 beta 2 Professional version and let
it run. How can I check what version of frame work is installed. Being new to
VS I just don't know these things, but I'm willing to learn.

Thanks for your help.
Sarah.

That is the exact message which I realise isn't helpful, but that what it is.
Doesn't matter if I re build and start debug or run in browser, either way
it won't display the page.

Thanks,
Sarah

If you're running XP check the following
C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework
or do a search for a folder called Framework check that version 2 is there

the following link is to the quickstart tutorials for ASP.NET 2 if you've
prior coding experience in VS 2003 then this should have you up aand running
in no time
http://beta.asp.net/QUICKSTART/aspnet/doc/pages/default.aspx

Try disabling friendly HTTP error messages in IE (Tools / Internet Options /
Advanced).

Jimco, I tried your suggestion but the message is the same. The page has a
lot of what looks like standard text however this text is what appears
directly after "Page won't display error".

"The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might
be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your
browser settings."

Thanks,
