Binding to none DataSource Controls

I want to write a webcontrol that has a property which displays a list
of all Components of a specific type and which then allows the user to
select a specific component from the list. The webcontrol must the
property of the webcontrol must then be bound to the selected control.

Has anyone done this before and if so how should this be done.
