Can I link direct to the DNS numbers?

If I'm in the wrong group ... please tell me where to go (boy if that isn't
an open invitation)

Anyways ... can I link to something like this http://36.35.36.0 ? I'm
switching to a new IP but I need to leave (and still link to) a lot of
pictures on the old server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DNS is a system to translate ip addresses to domain names (and vice versa).
You can use an ip address whereever you use a domain name, but be aware
that you'll get a webserver's default site rather then a specific one (as
multiple domains can be hosted on a single server)

Although this will only apply if you're using shared hosting.

Even if you are indeed using shared hosting, you can often still link to
your content using the IP address of the server, using the format:
http://36.35.36.0/~yourusername/yourimage.gif

You should ask your host if they allow this and the correct format for doing
so.

Gary
