Cant deploy to a standalone WAS server

Guys am using a standalone WAS v6 application server [network
deployment] on Suse linux enterprise server v9. The problem is that i
cant deploy an application directly from the Rational Application
Developer workspace to the server. The rational i am using doesnt have
a test server bundled with it. When i try to deploy to the WAS
standalone server, i get an error message that the connection to server
failed. no security is enabled on the remote server. What could be the
problem?
