Indeed, the reportlab toolkit kicks butt!. I downloaded it and in less than
4 hours I was showing off the proof-of-concept to my coworkers. The merging
of the two files is simple (though we are doing some manipulations which are
not) and I am creating pdf files that may allow us to stop printing the
reports off altogether (nearly 1000 pages per day).
