Creating a search Facility

HI ALL
I'M COMING FROM A FOX PRO BACKGROUND
WHERE I COULD IN A VERY EASY WAY CREATE A SEACH FACILITY BY PRESSING N F1
AND ANOTHER WINDOW WILL DIRECTLY APPEAR WHICH WOULD LET THE USER TO SEARCH
FRO A SPECIFIC DATAVALUE AND INSERT IT IN A TEXTBOX IN THE ORIGINAL FORM.
I WOULD LIKE TO CREATE A SIMILAR FACILITY IN ASP.NET
I DON'T WANT A KEYPRESS FUNCTION I COULD CREATE A BUTTON ON THE SCREEN BUT I
WANT TO CREATE A POPUP WINDOW WHERE I COULD FROM THAT POPUP RETURN A VALUE
TO MY ORIGINAL PAGE.
CAN ANYBODY HELP ME TO KNOW HOW CAN I DO THIS OR AT LEAST GIVE ME A LINK TO
A TUTORIAL THAT WOULD HELP ME IN IMPLEMENTING THIS FACILITY

THANK YOU

your working in web browser now so you have to use javascript - you can trap
F1 using javascript in IE and do whatever you like with the event, like open
a new window.

Catch the OnHelp event in BODY tag and call any javascript function ...
example
<script>
function openSearchPage()
{
// write the code for opening ur search page
}
</script>
<BODY onhelp="openSearchPage();return false;">

You then from a popup need to work out how pass a value back to your inital
form following instructions like these:

IN JAVASCRIPT YOU CAN CAPTURE THE KEYPRESS AND CHECK FOR AN F1 KEY. YOU CAN
THEN CALL WINDOW.OPEN() FOR YOUR POPUP HELP WINDOW. YOU CAN FIND THE BASIC
IDEA OF CAPTURING KEY INPUT HERE:
HTTP://WWW.CODINGFORUMS.COM/ARCHIVE/INDEX.PHP/T-50450

SPECIFIC CHARACTER MAPS CAN BE FOUND ON THIS FILE:
HTTP://WWW.GAR.NO/GLINKWEB/DOC/GLINKKBD.HTML

NOTE: NOTICE HOW HARD IT IS TO READ WHEN YOU TYPE ALL IN CAPS.
