CVXML - Curriculum Vitae schema

Keith Salisbury

I'm currently developing a schema for curriculum vitae information.
Once its created, how could i go about taking it forwards, getting it
amended, reviewed, accepted and/or standardised? Is it just a case of
me convincing enough people that its good and encouraging them to
utilise it, managing their input, and progressing from there? or is
there a more formal approach to this kind of thing? I have both dtd
and xsd close to what i'd call a 0.8 version, any suggestions?

thanks
keith

A RFC posted here wouldn't be bad, I suppose..

This sounds like the sort of thing OASIS does.

I'd start by looking through http://www.oasis-open.org and see if they're
already on the job. If not, you might see if there's a technical committee
under which this would fit. Failing that, you could propose a new one.

I'd say there's little of value that you can do on your own. For this
particular problem, what's needed is to convince every vendor of
software that automatically extracts information from `word' files that
they can provide more accurate information from a more structured
format, that it's worth developing the code to do it, and that every
other vendor is buying in to your particular mark-up scheme. If this
were to happen, organisations which accept electronic resumes will start
accepting them in the more structured format, and people will start
generating them. An open standards organisation like OASIS is in a
better position to make this happen, and it would probably be beneficial
all-round if it did, but I will wish you luck and continue to inhale and
exhale for the time being.

Thanks very much Patrick, that exactly the kind of information i was
looking for. I'm fully aware that progressing this into an accepted
standard in not something i could achieve on my own, but hopefully by
convincing organisations such as Oasis to take up the cause, we could
eventually get it to become an accepted.

I have to say it surprises me that the closest thing to cvxml, other
than attempts by private individuals like mine, is vCard written in
RDF/XML.
Its not however, a very comprehensive representation of a person,
IMHO.
