I hear that Captchas for some big email sites have recently been
cracked. This lead to a global surge in spam. I hope this is only
transient, and that things will go back to normal. :-(
[ I wish spammers could realize that a C++ group tends to attract
a crowd that is less likely to fall for junk offers... ]

In the meantime, there is also the option of the moderated
counterpart (c.l.c.moderated), although it has inconveniences...

Or teach your filters. Mine let though 4 spam postings yesterday, but
that pattern is now blocked.

Get a real news service and newsreader. Google Groups is the source of
almost all the spam, so it's fitting that its users are most affected.
