difference between inertial and transport delay

Hello All,
I am currently perplexed understanding the difference between inertial and transport delay.
Well, a definition that I caught at another forum goes like this:
"The main difference is that tranport delay adds the propogation delay to the signal. How ever the inertial delay causes the pulses less than that delay to get suppressed & will not propogate these pulses to change the output. "

but i really am not able to get into this definition. another explanation which seemed more like layman explanation is:
"inertial delay is default delay,i.e it's a component delay.
whereas transport delay is a wire delay."

Could please somebody help me out..

Hi

You got the definition and explanation correctly. In real world electronic will a spike or short pulse not be able to change the output of a gate which got relative longer propagation delay.

However will the pulse/spike still be able to propagate toward a wire (transmission line).

I believe the interactive VHDL book Evita from aldec could help you. Search the net for it (free)
