doc to txt

Hi,
Is there anyway, using some scripting, to convert a .doc file to a text file
without using any Microsoft libraries?
Thank you,
Paul

There are third party file convertors out there, some of which are most
likely scriptable. I seem to remember using a product called Wordport back
in 1999 or something to mass convert some EBCDIC files to .DOC files, and it
had a pretty extensive file support list. The GUI part of the application
was ungodly ugly, but that doesn't really matter. I scripted all the
conversions using the command-line support the application had. Whether or
not it was also com-automatable, I do not know. Probably. But point being
that there are probably dozens of components out there.

Do you have MS Word? If so you could use VBA to convert them using
'Save As Text'.
