E"ND failed" -- but why?

One of my programs prints this when it exits:

Use of uninitialized value in null operation, <F> line 1796.
Undefined subroutine &main:: called, <F> line 1796.
END failed--call queue aborted at tools/mig.strings line 1, <F> line 1796.

Well, that's singularly helpful. Any ideas how to find out *where* it
tries to do that and *why*?
