field layout and appearance

hey all,
i built a really basic formview with a sqldatasource and it works fine. what
i'd like to know is if there is anyway to change the appearance of the fields
dynamically to make it look precisely the way i want it to.

for instance, field1 and field2 are column values so they belong in a column
format instead of above or below each other,
but the rest of the fields are fine in the tabular format.
