different modes and with different types
and also advanced dfeatures.

VHDL is very good at handling text files. It can also handle other
types of file but it is less trivial. It is recommended that you use
text files where possible.

Also, just to make sure, you cannot synthesise file IO. it can only be
used in testbenches.
