Finding the control id of an item in a datalist

Hi,
I want to add an attribute to a control within the edititemtemplate of
a datalist and as far as I can see, I need to reference the control by
it's integer index. What is the easiest way to find out what the index
of the control is? I did this before by navigating through the locals
window while debugging, but for some reason, my locals window isn't
showing the controls now.
