foo

I keep running into code snippets that name things "foo". Why do
people name things foo?

e.g.:
class foo{
....
}

it makes me think of the a-team.

A lot of times code doesn't work... erm... quite right.

it comes from a military term and I'm sure you can find the
explaination...

When most people use 'foo' or 'bar', they do so without the subtext
"this code is fucked up beyond all recognition". 'Foo' is, at least
today, a neutral word. That's part of the point: to have a completely
neutral, content-free placeholder name.
