Free asp.net forum software?

M

MarkusJNZ

Hi all does anyone know of any good free open source forumsoftware?

Google did not really return anything good apart from the original 1.1
ASP.,NET version which I installed.

http://www.asp.net/Forums/Download

I now get a problem where when a person logs in they get the following
problem

Object moved to here.

and then they receive an access denied error

Any help about a better free forum or how to solve the above problem
appreciated
Cheers
Markus

re:
I did look at that but it seems to have gone from a free solution to a commercial product.

It's free for personal use.
If you're going to make money off of it, pay them some money. It's only fair.

http://communityserver.org/i/overview.aspx

"If you're raking it in from Google ads (more than $500/mo)
or if you're a business we have a commercial edition.

We would love to make it all free because we love what we do, but our lawyers and accountants
keep reminding us that the electric company, landlord, employees, and other vendors still need
to get paid."

Community Server has replaced asp.net.forums.

Hi Yuan, I did look at that but it seems to have gone from a free

Thanks again

That one looks a bit aged, with no development on v7.5.1 since February 2005,
and v8.0 announced since December 2004 without anything happening since then.

I've installed it/played with it, and found it to work fine.
Let us know how you do with it.

The product is free... if you don't like it you don't use it. As I've told you a hundred times already, Juan, don't reply to my
posts. You're an unwelcome responder, typically injecting your unwanted opinon.

Don't reply to my postings, reply to anybody else, but don't reply to me.

I don't respond to you, only to misguiding information and requests for help.

re:

I will stand by that comment until you show that information to be untrue.

As for being an "unwelcome responder", all you have to do, if you don't want to be corrected,
is post information which informs and not misguides, regardless of whether you consider
comments on your misguiding information to be "unwanted" by you.

Fortunately, you are not in charge here, and there's lots of readers in this newsgroup.
They deserve better respect than being provided to links to programs for which :

1. Development and support has stopped
2. an announcement of a 2.0 version was made 3 years ago...but nothing has been delivered.

To summarize, if you don't want to be publicly corrected about misguiding information you post here,
find yourself a kindergarden somewhere, where you can behave like a child...all you want.

Come on, Juan... Jon Paal knows everything! The mere fact that he so proudly
puts [MSMD] after his name should tell you that!

I'm betting it's "Monkey See Monkey Do"... :)

I killfiled him ages ago - why don't you do the same...?

I think both you guys need to step back a bit and agree not to sink to the
level of "tit-for-tat combatants".

Juan, your posts are informational, you have every right to say what you
think is a valid point.

Jon, the guy was making valid observations about the info you posted. You
need to be a bit less sensitive when somebody corrects you or provides
additional information.

How about it guys?

Don't be so quick to judge. You might feel differently if it happened to you.

Any answer can be elaborated upon in a newsgroup.

But after having specifically asked someone, many times, to not reply to your postings, and then that someone follows you around,
for a long time, continually and purposely finding ways to "correct" you, that's not trying to be helpful, that's purposeful
ill intent.

This is my last post on this thread. Feel free to have the final word.

He's gone for me Peter. I put him in my bozo bin.

This isn't the first time he posts in that immature manner so,
bye-bye Jon, you are the weakest link!

The only problem is that I won't be able to see any incorrect info
he posts in the future, so it will be up to you guys to correct him.

Fwiw, my comment :

!>> That one looks a bit aged, with no development on v7.5.1 since February 2005,
!>> and v8.0 announced since December 2004 without anything happening since then.

....was, in no way, personally offensive towards him.

I really don't care who said what to whom. The fact of the matter is, these
are public newsgroups.

If you post something and somebody else feels it's inaccurate and they want
to add something, either good or bad, you need to learn to take it like a big
person and stick your ego in your back pocket.

I get corrected all the time on these groups by people who are a lot smarter
than I am, and it's been a damn good learning experience, pal.

I agree you have the right to "free speech" and your posts are not
personal replies to the author but public statements.

I would be interested to learn if Jon supports Government control of
web forums which already done by many countries.

Personally, I would like to see more government control of websites
and forums to filter own harmful websites. Read the terrible press
about alt.suicide.holiday after it was reported it has caused many
deaths (google Suzy suicide cnn) as one example. Sites like yahoo.com
have been banned by many countries.
