gem server - cannot redirect to gem repository

T

Tom Cloyd

Due to some quirk of my install-from-source (done earlier today), my
gems are in /home/tomc/.gem/ruby/1.8/doc, on my Kubuntu Linix OS.

I need to redirect the gem server to this location, but nothing I've
tried has worked, and I'm out of ideas.

Here's what I think SHOULD work, with the result:

gem server -d=/home/tomc/.gem/ruby/1.8/doc
ERROR: While executing gem ... (ArgumentError)
/home/tomc/=/home/tomc/.gem does not appear to be a gem repository

These also do not work:
/home/tomc/.gem
/home/tomc/.gem/ruby/1.8
/home/tomc/.gem/ruby/1.8/doc/activerecord-2.3.3/rdoc (direction to a
specific rdoc dir)
/opt/ruby-1.8.7-p160/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 (is where my gems actually reside)

=> Can anyone tell me what I'm not grasping, such that this all failing
so completely?

Thanks!

t.

Here's my "gem env" output:

$ gem
env
