I've been talking to virtually.

If you're going to RubyConf, and you haven't yet checked out and posted to
RubyConf2005Facebook:

http://www.rubygarden.org/ruby?RubyConf2005Facebook

then please do.

Thanks,
Curt

And what about RubyFaces in general? I won't go to RubyConf, so I'm
not allowed to post my picture there.

The whole idea is to help those going to RubyConf recognize each other. I
think that goal would be diluted if there was too much extraneous stuff.

You bring up a good point, though... There should be something like this fo=
r
everyone. Maybe you could set up a spot Flickr for Ruby folks to post there
pictures.

What's up with your picture... so far I've seen three different pics of you
there? Are we being treated to a picture-a-day? :)

According to his blog, he's got a ruby script rotating the picture on every
reload. Just the same, it gave me a bit of a start for a moment. I noticed
it change to a different image once, then edited the wiki and saw it go bac=

to the original picture. I checked the revisions and there was only mine, s=

I thought for a moment I had accidentally reverted the page to a previous
version somehow!

It didn't occur to me immediately that he could have changed the file on hi=
s
server without editing the wiki.

Thanks a lot James!! :)

Oh, my pleasure. :)

I should probably have it rotate copies of the same image, but with very
small differences: glasses/no glasses; fake mustache/no mustache;
eyebrows/no eyebrows; and so on.

Or you could really confuse us by rotating pictures of completely different
people. :)

Well, I originally asked Francis if one needed to put up a real picture.

Of course, that sort of hinders the point of the page.

But, if general mayhem is the goal, ....

Can anybody tell me how I can make links to anchors using RubyGarden's
syntax? I'm trying to tidy the page by creating a list of all the names
at the top, but RubyGarden's wiki syntax is stymieing my efforts.

Never mind, dblack helped me figure it out. Social software crisis
averted. Now there's a nice little index up top. Sorry about the
double-page-request, though, I don't think I can do anything about that
with the RG wiki syntax working the way it does.

Auto-TOC [1]:
http://www.rubygarden.org/ruby?SandBox/RCFb

(I've no preference between the two)

Ah, that's nice, thanks for making that example. I'll switch it to that
when I have a minute, that way it's harder for the TOC to fall out of
sync as new entries are added.
Sorry about the double-page-request, though, [...]

??

1. You can't make a wiki link on RubyGarden that points locally to an
anchor. You can only point globally to the URI with the anchor, so you
end up re-loading the page.

2. All external links go through Google, which I guess was an anti-spam
measure, since such links are not counted in Google's index. I think
now this could be accomplished with rel=nofollow.

Anyway, it's moot once I have the time to set up the auto-TOC.

Thanks for that clarification, Francis.

I jumped in and did it. Hope that's OK.

(Now, index entry and #anchor are automatic.)

Keep those pictures coming, folks; very enlightening.

Flickr requires some sort of a signup, does it not? Could just create
another
page on RubyGarden. RubyFaces or something, I suppose.

Well, anyone can create a wiki personal page, add an image link, and
add, someplace on the page, CategoryRubyFaces. Then one can find all
such face pages by searching on CategoryRubyFaces.

See http://www.rubygarden.org/ruby?JamesBritt

as an example.

(Joy of joys (no sarcasm) the News gateway seems busted as I do not
have this message, so I'm replying one down.)

I've already camped out a Ruby group on flickr:

Q: What is the advantage to having a Ruby group on flickr, as opposed to
folks simply tagging their RubyConf05 pix as RubyConf05?

a) Discussion boards.
b) The 'Ruby' group is not limited to just RubyConf.
