help in image processing....

Hi FPGA experts i need a help in processing an image.....plz find the attachment of the image it is having white lines and black....here i have to count only the white lines....already i processed the image using sobel edge detection but i didnt get exact edge detected image.....and tried many ways but results not accurate.......so that i cant able to proceed furthur.... i need some effective algorithm to do this.... some one plz guide me in which way i can implenment this in FPGA using verilog.....
