How do I connect to an web app using Visual InterDev

D

Dave

I have an existing web app on a remote server that I want to manage as a web
project on my local box with Visual InterDev.

But when I create a new project in VID and connect to the web server, I
cannot connect to the existing web app.

At the "Specify your web" dialog box I choose "connect to existing web on
server" but the only option that shows up is <root web>. I cannot
overwrite this option with the name of the web I want to connect to

I can see this web application in the IIS Manager on the remote server and
..it is configured as a web application. It accessible in a browser.

Why won't it show up in Visual InterDEV?

I've been using VID for several years and I still can't figure this out. A
couple times it was a problem with the FrontPage Server Extensions on the
web server, but more often than not, I have to select Create New
Application, and type in the name of the folder that already exists on the
web server. After answering No when it asks if I want to install the script
library, I usually have the same functionality with the application that I
would have if the appl, ication existed in the Existing Apps dropdown.

It's because the FrontPage server extensions don't see the folder as a
FrontPage sub-web - it's still considered part of the root web. The web
application settings are independed of the FPSEs. If you create the web from
VI, as Bob suggests, then the folder will be set as a sub-web in the FPSEs.
