How to check whether web services are compliant with industry stan

Sarika Jathar

Hi all,

I want to check whether a web services are compliant with industry
standards and implementation guidelines.
Basically I am interested in checking whether a Web service fully support
the following industry XML Web service standards when exposing or consuming
programmable functionality:
XML Web service standards:
• XML Schema 1.0
• SOAP 1.1
• WSDL 1.1
• UDDI 2.0
Can you please provide me some pointers?
Waiting for favorable response.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Sarika,

The best way to assure compliance with these things is to be in touch with
the web service author/provider and ask. A good question to ask is "are
you WS-I basic profile compliant?" - if they don't know what that is, then
direct them to http://www.ws-i.org, and look together at the requirements
for basic profile compliance.

As a side note, there is nothing that a web service author has to do to be
UDDI compliant - UDDI may be useful for locating a web service or
registering it's interfaces, etc, but there is no direct connection between
UDDI and a web service, and a web service can happily exist without having
any UDDI registration. Similarly, a web service can function very nicely
wihout having any WSDL file published - WSDL helps non-affiliated third
parties generate reasonable proxies, and so it is a friendly thing for a WS
provider to do to provide a WSDL description of their service to
prospective partners.

Hope this helps,
