Howto enable SOAP Compression?

We want to compress the SOAP messages between a .NET Client and a Java Axis
WebService.
Decompressing the WebService responses using myProxy.EnableDecompression in
the .NET Client and enabling HTTPCompression in Tomcat works fine.
How can we enable compressing of the requests in our .NET Client?
