How do you pronounce inline.
Is it IN-line with the emphasis on
in, or is it in-LINE with the emphasis
on line?

How do you pronounce 'running'? Say these sentences out loud.
"She goes running in the park."
"There is hot and cold running water."

Hear the difference?

Now try
"The function should be expanded inline wherever possible."
"In this instance you should use an inline forwarding function."

I think we have the same kind of thing going on in both cases. Stress
and accent are not clearly separated in spoken English.

HTH.
