what's your background? Can you already program in another language? I'd say lay your hands on a good text book.

The FAQ gives some tips on learning C++ and Object Oriented (OO) Programming and some good books. I like Stroustrup though it may be dated now and it may be a bit tough for beginners. Accelerated C++ is supposed to be good for people learning C++ from scratch.
