A lot of up-to-date software still runs under Windows 98:
- an early Java 7 snapshot
- the most recent version of Eclipse Ganymede
- the most recent version of Apache Tomcat
(except for the batch files, so one has to call
the JVM directly to run Apache)
(The recent installation programs for Java EE and Java 7
snapshots from Sun, however, will not run. But this might
be just a problem with the installer. It might help, to
run the installer on a more recent Windows and then copy
the files. Some basic features might work this way and
other features can be obtained by editing the registry
apropriately, i.e., to register file types and so.)
