jmf and jai

hello everyone,
I want to play around a little with image processing with my webcam. I
heard that JMF is a great way to access Cameras. So when I wanted to
download the JMF, I saw that there is also an "Advanced Imaging API".

Does someone have experience with one or even both of the APIs? I guess
JMF is the way to go for image acquisition. But what to do when it comes
to manipulating the images(like blurring, edge detection, ...)? Is JMF
or "plain java" enough, and well suited to do such things, or should I
use the JAI API?

thanks for any hints!

bye,
bauscharln
