Losing pop-up window focus

hi all,
i have a simple html form. i have a pop-up window within the form for
the users to enter some information for certain fields.
now once the window pops up and loses focus, i want it to close
immediately so that no information is sent to the form. i have tried
implementing onBlur but that closes the pop-up window even when i click
within it.
all help will be appreciated.
