After a hiatus of 3 years, I have once again surveyed market penetration of various server-side technologies using Google's search facility. Results are in
number of occurrences of each file extension:
FileExt Occurrences
============
..PHP 311M
..ASP 191M
..CGI 10M
..JSP 35M
..ASPX 140M
You may refer to the 2004 numbers from my previous survey on these newsgroups at
http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t79367-market-penetration-of-asp-versus-aspnet.html
I thus may repeat my 2004 statement without change:
"Despite years of marketing and attempts to convert programmers, it appears that ASP.NET remains a failure. ASP in contrast remains vibrantly present, solidly ensconced in second place behind PHP."
After many years, ASP usage remains higher than ASP.NET.
I look forward to posting a similar message 3 years from now.
