hi,
i am actually new to c.l.c
and i happen to read lots of mails in this newsgroup

and the very bad part of this newsgroup
is that ppl start to hurt a newbie, if the person asks for a very basic
doubt

and that too, joona i palaste, if i could see ur mails i could only
know that you do not provide solutions
but mostly ask people to not send basic doubts to this comp.lang.c

i think the news readers need to be more professional, not all of them

please try to help a novice or if not, keep mum , so that the person is
not
discouraged

rajasekar.

If you were going to make this complaint, you could at least have tried to
write a new message, instead of just copying your old one from the thread
below. This newsgroup is so popular, it depends heavily of rules, that's why
every user is asked to read the c.l.c.-FAQ, where most of your questions
will be (partially) answered.

No matter if you are new to the group or not, it's basic Usenet-netiquette
to read the FAQ for the group you are about to post in. I believe the FAQ
says to post very limited amount of code, and to narrow it down as much as
possible, and also to be careful about line-breaks and such. Formatting is
also a big issue, since many people read code differently. A standardized
formatting/style helps people to read the code. It's that simple.

The c.l.c. FAQ is here: http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/C-faq/top.html

Talking about hurting newbies: you attached what looks like a visit card
on your post. Basic Usenet netiquette asks that you refrain from
attaching anything to your messages. Do not do it again.

The other reply to your post addressed the need for enforced rules on
the newsgroup.

Oh, and while we're at it, netiquette also asks that you use as good an
English as you can. This means using capital letters at the beginning of
sentences, and correct punctuation, that you write lines no longer than
72 characters, that you avoid k3wl abbreviations such as "ppl" and "ur".

Note that in spite of what _you_ might think, answers such as mine and
others are not about bullying newbies, but actually about helping them.
E.g. I am teaching you about some of the basics of posting, and that
will surely help you have a satisfying interaction with the newsgroup in
the future.

Very well spoken. These damned stiff-necked hard-core c "wanna-bee"
masters like to spend their time showing off skills they don't even have
by making newbies look bad, but the truth is anybody with a copy of K&R
and a basic understanding of C syntax can bash newbie code like it was
over ripe squash.

I know, cuz I do it all the time.

But hey, your off topic, and while we're at it, do you know where I can
get a decent price on a blender, mine's on the frizt --I'm in dire need!!

clord.

Great. Welcome aboard!
and the very bad part of this newsgroup

Not if the question is on topic, i.e. it concerns the standard C
language -- and expressed in a reasonable fashion.
and that too, joona i palaste, if i could see ur mails i could only
know that you do not provide solutions
but mostly ask people to not send basic doubts to this comp.lang.c

Ad hominems are unnecessary and contribute nothing -- as opposed to
Joona, who has contributed much over the course of time.

Which ones? The ones who expect that people who choose to post here
do the things that are expected of everyone on usenet?

Things like:

Lurk for a while. See what's considered to be on topic. See what
kinds of posts get the best responses.

Seek out and read the FAQ (if a newsgroup has a charter -- c.l.c.
does not, as it predates such things -- read it as well).

Do a little research on your own, first. It's a lot more efficient
than waiting for usenet propagation. Look it up in a book
(unfortunately, there are a lot of books out there with some
questionable answers). Search the 'net (similarly).

If you do these things, you'll see that there's a wealth of peer
reviewed assistance available to you from people with a wealth of
knowledge who just want to help.[1]

Follow the simple rules of good netiquette, and all will be revealed.

Cheers,

Welcome.

Hmm. I'm a ppl so I guess this applies to me. I'll gladly
apologize (either publicly in comp.lang.c or privately by mail)
to each and every newbie that I've hurt since joining comp.lang.c
- if you would be so kind as to identify them.
and that too, joona i palaste, if i could see ur mails i could
only know that you do not provide solutions but mostly ask
people to not send basic doubts to this comp.lang.c

My perception has been very different. I've seen Joona providing
significant amounts of help (not necessarily in the form of
complete solutions) to total strangers without much in the way of
thanks for his time and efforts.

Are you sure? I think most of the regulars rather enjoy helping
newbies develop in an informal setting without compensation. Do
you think that more rigid protocols are needed or that those who
provide the help should recieve customary consulting fees, or both?
please try to help a novice or if not, keep mum , so that the

Novices seeking to learn about C generally receive help in
measure appropriate to the topicality, honesty, and quality of
their questions. A guide to asking "smart" questions is available
by following the link below.
