I have been trying to install .NET Framework SP1 in my system but am unable to do so. The 10.2 MB SP gets downloaded successfully after which the installation starts by itself from within the browser (while I update my PC by navigating to IE's Tools--->Windows Update) but everytime a dialog box pops-up with the following message:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists in your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
With this, the installation terminates. If I try to install it again by double-clicking the NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe file that gets saved to the hard disk after the download, the same thing happens i.e. the installation terminates. What could the possible problem be & how do I overcome it? Please note that SP1 gets downloaded successfully; the problem arises just before the installation starts!
Please note that I am working on Windows 2000 Professional.
Thanks,
Arpan
