Netbeans oddity

Using the layout tool, I put a slider onto it, call up properties and
tick the various boxes. Then it disappears! It's on a JPanel on a
JApplet Form. Still visible when I run the preview or applet itself. Any
ideas?

Something to do with Null Layout, so not using it.
