Solution for the future googlers:

Instead of:
[WebMethod]
[SoapDocumentMethod(ParameterStyle=SoapParameterStyle.Bare)]
public string PurchaseOrder(XmlNode XmlPurchaseOrder)

you should use:
[WebMethod]
[SoapDocumentMethod(ParameterStyle=SoapParameterStyle.Bare)]
public string PurchaseOrder([XmlAnyElement]XmlElement XmlPurchaseOrder)
