OSCON Ruby tutorials cancelled?

Yes !

And I was hoping to meet all you wonderful people there :-(((

That's too bad.

I wonder if they would have had more takers if the tutorials were closer
to the Ruby sessions (on Thursday). Some people may not be able to come
for the whole week.

I hope they won't determine that there just isn't enough interest in Ruby
to include it in OSCON 2005.

Sounds like the EURUKO where only 10 persons announced interest.
Ruby is not very popular - that's the bad reality.

Well, that plus the fact that we were pitched opposite Randal L. Schwartz
and Damian Conway. I had this feeling at the very outset when I saw the
tutorial schedule that ours would be a hard sell.
I hope they won't determine that there just isn't enough interest in Ruby

I hope not too ... we will see.

Mean while, let us all work hard to get our presentation proposals polished
and worthy of inclusion. I wish I knew what their selection (or rejection)
criteria
are. I'll keep trying harder. What do you say?

I think it is too early to say about EuRuKo ... or about Ruby. Honestly,
by looking at the ruby-talk traffic, I am thinking Ruby is gaining
popularity
day by day. Admittedly, there is more noise now days, but that, IMO,
comes with the territory. In fact, again IMO, it is a unfortunate but
inevitable side effect. Time will tell!

Happy Rubying...

If RubyForge stats are any measure, Ruby is certainly continuing to grow
in popularity; the number of downloads off RubyForge have increased by
about 1,000 each month and totalled 10,134 in April (8,341 so far in
June). This may be more of a measure of the way projects are
consolidating onto RubyForge, but still, it's a positive sign...

Yours,

Tom

just make enough noise this year, like we did in the last two, and we
should have that granted.

Lothar is right, ruby is still a little world. But it is growing,
luckily. Oh, and don't forget to register for the ruby sessions :)

Hm, last year we were around 30 people. I guess (or hope) that we'll get
together a similar number of interested people this year in Munich.

Where and when in VA? I live here in the northern VA area and
would love to attend. Got any pointers for the conference? Please
email replies to me if you going to follow up on the list because it's
so infrequent that I get a chance to get on the groups.

Thanks,
Joe

It's looking pretty much the same as every year (which is good). I'd
say we can expect around the same numbers we've gotten in the past at
RubyConf.
