OT: Firefox question

If I type something into the address bar that does not resolve to an
ip address. Firefox seems to guess what site I'm trying to get to and
redirect me.

Can I turn this off so I get the proper DNS error?

It's called a "smart location bar":

<URL: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/features/#location-bar
It can be disabled by editing the about:config file, here's a
suggestion:

If you want to find out more about Firefox, go to the relevant web
site:

<URL: http://www.mozilla.com >

or use Google.

I did, but I didn't know what the feature was called and the support
forums on mozilla are flooded with unanswered questions.

Thanks for your help.
