Passing parameters in .NET to a webservice

I'm trying to call a webservice from a .aspx webpage using JavaScript
in the format of:

function GetNewMessages()
{
iCallID = service.InstantMessages.callService( "GetMessages" );
}

How can I pass a parameter to this webservice?
