ping a server - ASP .Net

Hi,

I want to verify if a webserver is up and running automatically,
even
if the user does not click on a link or an image in a web page that
is displayed when the user is working in my web site.

what is the best way to implement this by using javascript ?

Could the javascript be executed automatically every 'N' seconds?
