The troll "tea party" said that R.H. is dead...

The last message Mr Heathfield posted here was on July 10th. It is
strange. Anyone knows anything about him?

Actually the last one was on July 31st.
But this doesn't change anything. I hope that "tea party" just refers
to his absence from Usenet. There is no reason why a troll should know
about Richard Heathfield more than anyone else.

It is quite possible that he finally could not see the point of
contributing to the group. More important things in life and all that.

Recently I trimmed over half the groups I had (without looking back or
saying goodbye) and only scan most of those left rather than contribute.
In general Usenet is dying.

ISP's have stopped carrying it.
There is a lot more spam on it.
There are a lot more idiots (with bad manners).
In the last 5 years "everyone" has set up his own web forum and blog.
Many new internet users have no idea what Usenet is. (Many use Google
or Yahoo instead. )

Many of the older "gurus" and "experts" are growing (old and )weary and
dropping off groups because of the spam, trolls and idiots. Some of us
can remember life before the September that Never Ended. (Though in
theory it ended on January 25, 2005 )

I received an e-mail message from him today, sent early this
morning UK time. He's fine, he's just taking a break from Usenet
(from which he may or may not choose to return).

As for this "tea party" character, I won't waste my contempt on
the likes of him.

I hope the break he is taking is temporary. His contributions to this newsgroup are invaluable.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder and, apparently, elicits
compliments that would not be forthcoming in the normal scheme of
things.

It's good to know he's OK.

I'm sure he enjoys your fawning. There's lots about Richard to miss,
but I'd rather not have more English Topic Fundamentalists around.

Yesterday was Yom Kippur, and I was unable to access the computer.

I spent all day wondering if Heathfield had died. Thank goodness he
hasn't.

People should sometimes engage brian before posting.

Look, it seemed to me strange that Mr Heathfield did not post anything
here since more than a months. It is normal to ask isn't it?

Even if we disagree in many issues it is another thing that a regular
contributor just disappears without anyone even noticing it.

I couldn't figure out that Yom Kippur is today...

Some idiot posted "since the death of Richard Heathfield". From the
tone, I suspected that he was being facetious, but one can't be sure.
Since Yom Kippur was starting and everything here in Israel shuts
down, I couldn't check for a whole day, which I spent worrying.

I believe Malcolm's scorn was directed at the "tea party" troll, not
at you. Nobody was criticizing your original article. Personally,
jacob, I found it quite thoughtful.

May your fopen("BookOfLife.dat","rb+") succeed, and your fwrite()'s never fail.
The book of life is binary?
