Pop Up Form Size

G

GitarJake

Hello All,

I have an asp app that uses several pop up forms. They are supposed to be
larger forms, but on some machines, all using IE, they display a lot smaller
than they should be. Here are some of the behaviors that I am experiencing:

* It doesn't seem to matter what resolution the client is set for.
* It seems to come and go.
* It's not consistent across operating systems or browser versions; all
client machines use IE 5.5 to 6.0.

Does anyone have any ideas? Where can I set the size for popups so that I
can be sure they will display at their proper size?

TIA,

Jake

Considering pop-up windows are all generated with client-side code in the
browser, you probably won't get the best answers in this server-side
programming group. I suggest posting in a more appopriate group, such as an
Internet Explorer group or a J[ava]Script group. Be sure to include the
code snippets you're using when you do.

Hi Ray,

So then, you don't know?

Thanks for the reply anyway,

Jake

So then, you don't know?

I'm sure he does, but I suppose you're missing the point.

If someone comes in here and asks how to get Entourage on the Mac to filter
out questionable e-mail, the fastest route from Providence to Boston, or how
to train a beagle to stay, I could probably answer them. But why should I?

The point is, you're asking in the wrong place, and you've been directed to
a better place. Why are you still here? And why are you giving Ray a hard
time about it?

Thank you, Aaron.

I am here because I want to be...

I'm not about giving hard times...

So, say what you want after this, I won't reply.

But, MY point is this: I only asked a question on a newsgroup. I didn't
burst into the room commanding all attention. Not that I could in a
newsgroup. I didn't interrupt a conversation. Nor did I impolitely stamp
my foot and demand someone give an answer, any answer. I just asked a
question.

If someone knows the answer, and if they are nice, maybe they'll reply and
tell me. If they don't know the answer or they are not nice, maybe they'll
ignore me.

But, why take the time to reply if their answer will be of no value? I see
that as a waste of time and as an insult.

Thanks,

Jake

Hmm... I'm always conflicted when these types of threads manifest
themselves. I understand, from your perspective that you felt you post was
benign. However, I would ask you to consider it from Aaron/Ray's point of
view. If you do a scan of this newsgroup you'll see that Aaron, Ray and many
others devote an extraordinary amount of time and effort to assist the
people here. So much so, I often wonder how they manage to find the time to
do anything else. I would also suggest that the advice that Ray provided was
thoughtful, polite and of most value to your particular circumstance. My
reasoning is as follows. Had Ray simply taken the easy way out and answered
your question, it would reinforce the notion that this newsgroup is an
appropriate forum for client-side issues. It is not. This would have been a
huge disservice to the people who post legitimate ASP related questions,
people like Ray and Aaron who selflessly offer there help and most
importantly to you. That's not a misprint. You would have been done a
disservice had Ray answered your question. Instead, you are now equipped
with appropriate and distinct resources for your server-side and client side
questions. I sincerely hope that if and when you have a question related to
ASP, you will post it here. The contributors to this newsgroup are genuinely
interested in helping people.

You would really rather be ignored than directed to a more appropriate place
to get your question answered? How does that help you?
But, why take the time to reply if their answer will be of no value?

Because we think that replying will help you, and ignoring you won't help
you. You've spent an extra day trying to get help on this newsgroup, when
you could have posted your question to a client-side newsgroup and had your
answer in minutes. This is mind-boggling behavior. And it's starting to
border on rude, as well.
I see that as a waste of time and as an insult.
You consider being directed to a place where you can get help to be an
insult???

But, why take the time to reply if their answer will be of no value?

Because you haven't yet realized that the response you got WAS valuable.
Maybe you didn't realize that this was not an appropriate place for you to
ask your question. But you were directed to a more appropriate place, where
more experts in that area hang out, and where you will get the answer you
want instead of forcing people to give yout the ABC's of netiquette.
I see that as a waste of time and as an insult.

I could say the same about your attitude. However, I'll only say, "Tough
sh*t."

Actually, knowing the folks on this group a little, it is an attempt to get
you to the best place for you to get an answer, whether the person does or
does not know the answer. I think that IS nice and helpful. But then, maybe
that's just me.
