Populating dropdownlists without doing postback

Hello ,

I need to populate one dropdownlist based on the second dropdownlist selection. but i shouldn't do postbacks. I know this can be done by javascripts or Ajax. I cannot use Ajax. Can anybody know how to use javascript for this. Two dropdownlists are populating from the data coming from database.
