There are situations where I wouldn't use jquery, or any library. But in some cases it is perfect. Any reasonable analysis of jquery or other libraries needs to keep this in mind. If the arguments against generalized libraries (and of course there are some) are to be taken seriously, then they need to be rational and specific about their criticisms and let the reader then decide if they should be used or not, given the pros and cons presented.
