RAILS@: select(object, method, choices, options = {}, html_options = {}) call

Hi,
I'm trying to insert the above call into a rails form , except that the
field I want displayed does'nt exist
in the model for which the view is written. Can someone tell me what exactly
the method parameter
is there for, and what it does as it is the only thing that is preventing my
call from working.
