First, this is not a C question, so you're in the wrong place.

Second, a bit of web searching indicates that new copies of the book
are still being sold. It's unlikely that legal soft copies are
available. You might check with the author or the publisher.

There may or may not be illegal soft copies floating around. Nobody
here will help you find them.

comp.lang.c is a newsgroup for discussing the C programming language. The
book you are talking about isn't even about C.

If you can't locate a "free soft copy" of a book using Google it probably
doesn't exit.

And if you can that doesn't mean it's legal... I don't think the ANSI C
standard is free, though it's easy to find. There are many illegal sites
that claim to give "free" books... funny. Sometimes resellers are crazy:
I know of a site that sells PDF books, and that has all links in the
robots.txt file. Seems they don't know what it's for ;-) And for some time,
Cornell distributed NR sources to Cornell student as well as anybody on
earth... Available, even in Google, even at official site (!) doesn't
necessarily mean legal :)

Far from free, at $278 for the PDF it's easy to see why people look for
"cheaper" versions.

If the price is $278 you're looking in the wrong place. The
price for a PDF of C99 should be about $18.

340 CHF at iso.ch, either PDF or paper (not both !).

Yes, it should, but shoulds don't set the price, the IEC does.

Go to webstore.ansi.org. Type "9899-1999" in the "search" box,
click Go. The document shown will be C99 and it will be $18.

Well then I guess ANSI is in a lot of trouble, aren't they?

Very interesting, I did this a couple of weeks ago and the only version
available was the "ISO/IEC" version for $278. I even called up ANSI to
confirm and they said that the price was increased per the IEC. Now
the "INCITS/ISO/IEC" is showing up in addition for $18. The versions
should be the same except for the cover sheet, I wonder why they offer
the $278 one.

According to ANSI, the IEC sets the price for the Standard. None of
this makes very much sense...
