its hanging for infinite time.

You are asking in the wrong place, we don't do anything except Standard
C here, sorry.
Your best bet would be to ask in comp.unix.programmer or an AIX group.
I suggest you post a small, complete, compileable example that
demonstrates your problem when you do though.
