Sun Certified Associate for the Java

can someone tell me whether Sun Certified Associate for the Java is a
mandatory certification if someone wants to go for higher level
certifications in Java. like SCJP is mandatory to have to go on to
higher levels.
i see that SCA is a recent addition to the list of available sun
certifications
