TIMER ruuning on server

I have a website that is supposed to run a task on a specified time.but
maybe the page was closed already.
How can I run that task ?
If if use a Timer control the control is related to page.
I 'm using a host t which maybe don't let me to run windows service or
windows application ..

Very interesting. But I have a question about it. If the "service" that is supposed to
be run takes awhile to execute, does any end-user ever see a delay when accessing any
web page?
